Talking About Touching (TAT)

This program uses developmentally appropriate teaching techniques to help children learn essential safety skills. The curriculum is offered for two age groups: Preschool–Kindergarten and 1st–3rd Grade.

TAT is conducted in three sessions:

Day 1: Personal Safety

Children learn about car safety, traffic safety, and gun safety, as well as what to do if they become lost. They are also taught the importance of using parental permission through the “Always Ask First” rule.

Day 2: Touching Safety

Children learn about safe touches, how to say “No” to unwanted touches, the Touching Rule, and steps they can take to stay safe.

Day 3: Overview

A review of key concepts from both Personal Safety and Touching Safety.
